The town's first cemetery was located on top of the hill just east of the present day intersection of Parker Road and E-470. James Parker established the new cemetery at it present location on Parker Road. In 1885, some of the bodies interred in the original cemetery were moved to the new one.
Completely overlooked was the Old Stonegate Cemetery, which lay northwest of the town. Over the years as the land changed hands and was cleared for farming and ranching, the pioneer cemetery fell into disrepair and was forgotten. The old timers could only remember its general location. A few told tales of ghosts and skeletal apparitions that would appear in October when the moon was full. Eventually the land was sold to developers, and the Stonegate housing development was built. Basements were excavated and foundations poured; the resting place of the old pioneers was disturbed. As families moved into their new homes, more and more unexplained events and sightings were reported.
No reputable historians, archeologists or paranormal investigators have ever documented any evidence that the Old Stonegate Cemetery ever existed. Perhaps its nothing more than a BS story created for the shameless promotion of this website. Even so, it is true that some of the families living on Centre Circle have seen things they cannot explain..........
